Paul Martinez and his brother Alex have been run ragged by the demands of running the family landscaping business and caring for their mother who is battling dementia. They have hired nurse Hope Russell who brings relief to caring for their mother but brings a new problem for Paul - lusting after one of his employees. Hope and her young son need to restart their lives and Gansett Island is perfect for them. While she admires the way Paul cares for his mother and her son, she fights falling for him. She can’t risk losing her job and new home by falling for her boss. He’s tortured by falling for one of his employees, something he knows his late father wouldn’t approve of. Brother Alex has found his happy ever after (book 10) and the wedding is approaching but something is bothering Jenny, his future wife.
In this book we get to catch up on all our favorites from the series and see new relationships starting to form and hint of new arrivals. All emotions are in this book. It’s a fun, warm, sexy, romantic book. The healing power of the island, as Gansett fans refer to it, is in full force. Marie did a good job walking us thru the disease of Dementia. One of my favorite lines is when Hope explains the patient’s behavior as that “they don’t mean to be insulting or demeaning, or nasty. That’s it’s the disease talking not the perfectly nice people they’d been before dementia struck.” As always, Marie seamlessly weaves multiple story lines throughout the book. She writes with humor (the girl’s epic prank on the guys). Writes feel good stories with HEA. She writes strong, committed people who have strong morals and values. One of my favorite things about this series is that the women don’t do drama. They really care and support one another. The Island is filling up with youngsters so Marie is sure to have plenty of islanders to write about for decades.

Love After Dark is book 13 in Marie Force's McCarthy of Gansett Island series. Once again Marie creates her magic as she intricately weaves multiple storylines across this fabulous series. This book not only catches you up with characters from the past, but propels many more stories to come. It is full of love, laughter and shows how family as well as a community come together to help those they love.
The main focus of this book is on Paul and Hope. Paul and his brother Alex have done all they can to help their mother with her dementia. They have rearranged their entire lives as well as the family business to make it so she can stay at home, leaving little time for anything else. The greatest thing they have found is Hope and her son Ethan.
Hope is looking for a change in her life and accepts the position of being a caretaker for Paul's mother. She is willing to relocate with her son to Gansett Island to give her family the change they need. She has been destroyed in the past by counting on others, so she does everything possible to make sure that doesn't happen again. But will she be willing to put aside her fears to find happiness?
I cannot wait for more from this series. The characters from this series resonate in your heart and never let go! I felt so many emotions as I read each trial and tribulation they experienced. I laughed as well as cried often and I fell more in love with this community. Marie Force is a brilliant author with amazing talents!
Laughter , tears, joy, and happiness this is what Love after Dark the 13th book in the McCarthy's of Gansett island brings to you when you read it. Paul Martinez single business owner takes care of his dementia ridden mother with the help of his brother Alex and Alex's fiancée Jenny . Along comes Hope Russell a single mom who is trying to make life easier for herself and son Ethan . A fateful kiss brings Paul and Hope together let's see what destiny has to bring to them. Marie Force is a one of kind author who listens to her fans and ties us in with all her characters. Lord knows that this series is must read and reread . So hop on the imagination ferry and head on over to Gansett island where you will fall in love with the stories over and over again .
I love this series. I really do the characters are fun and intriguing, mysterious and oh so sexy. It is always nice to come back to the island and catch up. With that said I felt a little let down with this book. Don't get me wrong the writing style was still superb but I felt that Paul and hope's story was overshadowed by so many other things going on in this book. I know we have met a lot of characters and really do want to stay connected with them. However I didnt get a strong sense of bonding taking place with these two. It felt rushed and almost forced into the storyline. There was just so much going on in this book that poor Paul and Hope took a back burner. We had a funeral, Carolina and Seamus trying to come to terms with becoming parents, a bachelor party in which the women antagonize the men and of course thrash it. A wedding, plans for a senior center to be built on the island, uncle Kevin trying to come to terms with his impending divorce, possibly a romance blooming in the future for him. One lighthouse keeper being rescued in the middle of the night by one smoother operator, doctor visits, anniversary planning and that's just a small sample of everything that took place inside of this book that by the way ends with 38 minutes still left in the book. The other 10% is advertisement for upcoming books.
Don't get me wrong I'm not being ugly toward Marie I love this series and will definitely read the next book I just HATE that this series has gotten so big that the main characters take second place to all the other town folks.
